Valeggio Castle

By the 13th century, Valeggio had a fort, but it underwent significant transformation starting in the 15th century, becoming one of the largest fortified complexes in Lomellina. The structure features a trapezoidal plan with two entrance towers on the sides, while the southeast facade, facing the potential enemy, is adorned with three towers of different sizes and shapes. These towers are equipped with slender brick corbels and crenellations connected by arches. The southwest lateral entrance tower also retains traces of a bridge and a drawbridge walkway. In the inner courtyard, originally the outer courtyard of the fort, signs of the original drawbridge and entrance are still visible. The ancient stables, presumably dating back to the 1400s, are a result of the expansion of the original structure.
